1971

The ruins photographed once stood in Krümmel and Düneberg, about 40 kilometers away from the city of Hamburg. They were the factory-halls of Dynamit Nobel AG and bunkers for weapon-production. In the war-years the workers were either prisoners of the war or inmates of the concentration-camp Neuengamme. Little of what I photographed then remained – in my archive – and as well in the real place. Today the name Krümmel stands for the nuclear plant built on that site.
