„Sperrgebiet“ is the former restricted area around the Stasi-jail in Berlin-Hohenschönhausen. On the maps you would see a blank area, and people, who didn’t work for the Stasi, couldn’t get in, there were check points and barriers. In the center of this area was the detention jail, surrounded by former factory-buildings and office buildings around surveillance industry. This area breathes still a poisonous atmosphere, and reading the signs of firms established after the collapse of the GDR seem like only the names have changed.
