On my first journey in 1976 to Naples I was amazed by the urban chaos along the elevated highway – with Vesuvio throning majestically above everything. Into my mind came the woodcarvings of Hiroshige and Hokusai, who integrated Mount Fuji in every image of their famous series devoted to the holy mountain. I took the first photograph of this series in 1997, 2008 was my last journey to Naples, though I felt, that I hadn’t yet finished.
